Ukranian Soviet Socialist Republic
The republic is divided into twenty-five oblasts. The capital and largest city is Kiev, and other important cities include Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Khar'kov, and Odessa, all with populations of more than 500,000.
The twenty-five oblasts are as follows.
Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Khar'kov, Odessa, Chernovtsy, Kherson, Nikolaye, Kirovograd, Zaporzh'ye, Kramatorsk, Kadiyevka, Berdichev, Zhitomir, Chernigov, Nezhin, Poltava, Zhdanov, Vinitsa, Ivano-Frankovsk, Makeyevka, Sevastopol, Kerch, Simferopol and Kremenchug.
The Ukranian Soviet Socialist Republic, called "the granary of russia", is one of the most important agricultural regions of the Soviet Union. About 25 percent of the grain of the Soviet Union is grown in this region.
